History/Background Information

The Park Extension Historical Society (SHPEHS) was formed in 2009 as a non-profit organization dedicated to collecting – and more importantly – preserving the memories of this multicultural community of 30,000 plus residents, annexed to the city of Montreal in 1910 and since 2002 forming the west end of the Villeray-St Michel-Park Extension borough.

In 2010 our principal activity was initiating the observance of our Annexation (see 100th Anniversary). An on-going activity is keeping an archives and collecting books about Montreal and our different cultures. We also joined the Fédération des sociétés d’histoire du Québec and subscribed to “Quebec Heritage News”.

We meet on the first (occasionally 2nd) Monday of the month in the William Hingston complex, 419 Saint Roch St., and welcome new members. For more information contact sochist.pextension@gmail.com or use our contact form.

In addition to accepting all photos and stories by email, we also encourage you to use the HistoryPin site to place your pictures and stories on a map of Park Extension, so that the changes in the neighbourhood may be visualized in space and time.

Nous vous encourageons non seulement de nous envoyer vos photos et récit par courriel, mais aussi de les placer sur la carte intéractive de Parc-Extension créée par le site HistoryPin (en anglais seulement, pour le moment).
