Kekpart (Choisis ton Gang/Choose Your Gang)

Summary of organization/program

This project is dedicated to keeping youth out of gangs and gang activity.

To chat, relax, have fun and create a place where people can listen, and help orient you, it is the youth center Kekpart Longueuil you can go!

When working with a young player who experienced gang, he must be interested in the meaning and function of the gang rather than the structure. In other words, the speaker needs to understand what needs to come meet the gang and the gang what place in the lives of the young. The speaker does not have to know the structure and operation of the gang in question (eg codes, signs, territory, etc.). To respond effectively to the young, but in return, he must be interested in Young himself, his problems and his experiences.

Objectives

Recognize the importance of intervening with young people and their environment with a view to preventing gangs.

Statement of Principles

In fact, the best programs are not directly related to gangs, but are for major harm (crime, violence, sexual exploitation, …). In other words, an effective intervention strategy provides both reduce risk factors and increase protective factors for social and individual. What we absolutely must specify is that this policy applies to all stages of the intervention (primary, secondary and tertiary).

Strategies

  • Adapt its interventions with young people and their environment in order to prevent the accession of the young gang to maintain contact with those who belong to and support those trying to get out.
  • Share knowledge and practices on gangs with colleagues from his body and / or other agencies.
