History/Background Information

THE CLAP (Liaison Committee adolescent-parent)

Before 1990, the recreation programs offered to teens Trois-Rivières-Ouest focused primarily on sports. In September 1990, a gathering of young people in the pit “Sand Pit”, near the Arena in Trois-Rivières-Ouest, was reacted Recreation Department of the City.

Following this event, some people gathered with members of social clubs, parents, teenagers and some influential people of the City. These people were asked, “What can we do for our teenagers? ” As a result of this meeting, a consultative committee called the Liaison Committee Parents Teens (CLAP) was set up to work from the responses obtained. Almost simultaneously, the City of Trois-Rivières-Ouest mandated the firm with SODEM goal: the realization of a study on adolescent recreation of the municipality, specifically young people aged 12 to 17 years. This study came out two major recommendations:

Continue the activities of the consultative committee.
Set up a place, a place where young people could get together and find a variety of resources to meet their needs.

Objectives

The involvement of the Youth Escale in various community committees gives significant visibility and allows it to establish an extensive network of contacts. The partnership with the City as well as merchants and organizations is crucial in that it allows them aware of the importance of the presence of teenagers in our community. By the achievements of the body, the Liaison Committee adolescent-parent continues to promote the initiative by involving youth and preparing them more properly to become active, critical and responsible.


Statement of Principles

The mission of the Youth Escale is to establish links with all adolescents 12 to 17 years in Trois-Rivières to support their actions and their needs by acting as both facilitator and the occasionally as an actor.

L’Escale Youth is a place where teenagers can meet daily. A full range of programming including sports, recreational, educational, artistic, social and preventive is available every day. In addition, every night, two animators animate-stakeholder activities where they are expected to make intervention and referral for adolescents 10 to 17 years.


Strategies

The non-profit corporation of CLAP has continued its activities to build a strong organization to meet these objectives. In December 1994, CLAP proceeded to the opening of the Youth Escale. In November 1998, the Escale Youth moved into the premises of the arena in Trois-Rivières-Ouest.This move has brought a new reality regarding the youth market. First, the center met the objectives recreational fun for teenagers of the City of Trois-Rivières-Ouest. Then, gradually, stakeholders have found that adolescents were more diverse needs. Then the services offered by the Youth Escale CLAP to have expanded in the following areas:
