Objectives
Doc Shop has two goals: it gives the National Film Board and the CBC an opportunity to discover emerging talent and it offers students considering a future in film and video-making an encouraging experience with documentary and broadcasting.
Statement of Principles
Doc Shop offers young filmmakers an experience with documentary and broadcasting under the mentorship of the National Film Board and the CBC. Students are selected by a jury based on a proposal for a 4-minute documentary focusing on the theme of Community Empowerment.
Strategies
Doc Shop invites students to submit a proposal for a 4-minute documentary. The successful candidates will be chosen to participate in production workshops customized to their needs. The mandatory workshops will take place at the NFB headquarters in Montreal with seasoned professionals for 2 1/2 days. All videos produced by Doc Shop will be considered for broadcast on the CBC. The participants will also benefit from networking opportunities and some funding. The schools will provide video equipment and editing facilities.
