History/Background Information

UrbanArts began operation as Arts York in 1988 serving as the arts council for the former City of York and was incorporated in August of 1992 After amalgamation and successful programming in diverse youth arts at the turn of the millennium, Arts York changed its name and its mission to reflect an under-served and growing need in our community for a different kind of arts institution, one that reflected the community’s youth and diversity, a segment ignored by many traditional outlets. Since then, UrbanArts has enjoyed acclaim as a positive breakthrough programmer of youth arts activities and an agent of change in serving diverse youth through the arts.
