The Vancouver Observer is the online magazine for Vancouverites who embrace media that speaks with, not at, or for, its audience, and that focuses not on what’s breaking down, but what’s breaking through. Contributors are primarily university/college students.

  • The Vancouver Observer is a training ground for students from University of British Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, Simon Fraser University, Kwantlen University, Langara College Certificate in Publishing Program, and Emily Carr University of Art and Design.

History/Background Information

  • Since: 2009
  •  The Vancouver Observer was launched in October 2009 with an infrastructure that matches professional editors with evolving and established media professionals to create a platform that publishes daily, Vancouver-centric news and features.
  • Publisher Linda Solomon launched The Vancouver Observer in October 2009 with a small team and the contributions of students and local writers and media (above: Linda Solomon) producers. There are now more than 260 contributors. The Vancouver Observer’s content is original, high quality writing and commentary is produced throughout the day.
